Walk-in (ages 3–8; all welcome) Join volunteer naturalists for a fantastic journey through forests, streams and other magical places as they read select books. Children will participate in a hands-on nature activity.

Raccoons and Opossums      (Anita B Gorman Discovery Center)
January 6 · Saturday · 10 AM–2:30 PM
Walk-in (all ages) Raccoons and opossums are creatures of the night that are well adapted to city life. We'll learn about their adaptations, habits and how to deal with them when they cause us problems. At 11 a.m. there will be a skinning demonstration followed by samples of barbecued raccoon. Children will be able to make an opossum craft to take home.

Scout Program      (Anita B Gorman Discovery Center)

Registration required (Scouts) Scout leaders; lacking expertise or equipment to complete conservation badges? Bring your troop to the Discovery Center and our staff will provide a program to help Scouts with rank achievement. All Missouri Scout groups of 10-24 participants are welcome to schedule a free program. Meet the Artists – Fiber Art      (Anita B Gorman Discovery Center)

Walk-in (all ages) During January and February, fifteen Kansas City area fiber artists tell stories, evoke feelings and challenge our thinking through their work. Fiber artists use age old techniques like weaving, basket making, embroidery and quilting with traditional and new materials, often in unexpected ways. The Discovery Center invites you to meet the artists and enjoy this unique exhibit.

On Shaky Ground: How the Seismograph Changed Oil Exploration      (Anita B Gorman Discovery Center)

Walk-in (all ages) As Americans continue to debate the present and future of the oil industry, their discussions can be informed by knowledge of its past. This presentation will examine the advent of the seismograph and its role in changing the scale and scope of oil exploration worldwide. The seismograph's 100-year history is one of rapidly evolving technology and competing interests in science and industry. This program presented in partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council. A reception will be held at 6 p.m. with the program starting at 6:30 p.m.

SeedSavers–Kansas City Annual Seed Exchange      (Anita B Gorman Discovery Center)

Walk-in (all ages) Owls are some of the most fascinating forest animals we can experience in Missouri! Discover the mysteries of these regal birds through hands-on activities and special live animal guests from Lakeside Nature Center throughout the day. It'll be a hoot!
